Unfurling the National Flag at Lal Chowk

BJP's plan to hoist the national flag on Lal Chowk on 26th Jan seemsto be as egregious as it is insensitive. It was BJP who lambasted the UPA for not being able to control the killing of youths in their violent protests against the state govt. Yet, ironically, it is the same BJP which would pose an obvious threat to the already volatile situation in the region.
Notwithstanding the appeal by our PM and the state CM, BJP still has decided to go ahead with their 'drama'. As the second largest party of the nation and which has been in power at the centre , this action of BJP should rather be seen as undermining the Fundamental Duties enshrined in our constitution. It is profoundly distressing to see that peace and development can at best hope to come a distant second against a national party's decision to carry on with such activities.
Under the pretext of freedom to hoist national flag anywhere in thecountry, BJP is apparently inciting the separatist and the fundamentalist elements again, who have been in hibernation lately. Our nation will again see the separatists sponsored stone pelters on road which might later culminate into a bloody strife, if BJP were to go ahead with their thoughtless attempt at gaining political attention. Has the BJP not heard of Doctrine of Pith and Substance or are they just a bunch of ignorants trying to accrue political mileage.
The parallel drawn here will be apt for this situation. When a girl from a village background goes to metro for studies, she gets pigmented with the colours of that society, shedding her conservative ideas, food habits, living style, 'dressing sense' etc. When the same girl returns back to her village sporting her urban self, will that not be enough to attract unsought gestures or comments from the illicit elements of the society. Peace and tranquility will remain a far cry in the region if such irresponsible activities are carried. It will be enough for ingenious readers to decide now whether this big adventure of the nation's second largest party is nationalism or is a misdemeanour.

Nice presentation, but I differ from u at one point u have touched just one side of whole story and that is the role and rather I should say the motive of BJP to acquire the political mileage but the thing which is more important is whether this much hue and cry should be made on the name of hoisting flag on a piece of land which is supposedly the part of a sovereign country for last 60 years..for me it is not important that who is hoisting flag, I am concerned about whether flag is hoisted at Lal Chowk or not..I don't think millions and billions of people in this country will accept someone to embark the national interests..I just want to knw 'who lives if India dies'..Kashmir or Bihar is there till only when India is there, once gone no one would knw either of them, for India to live LET THE FLAG BE HOISTED irrespective of everything and everyone..Its everyone's duty including you..BJP may be ill motivated but, the gesture is neither unacceptable nor unconstitutional!!

Ultra nationalism or deliberation?
26/01/1992, Mr Murli Manohar Joshi with others went on to hoist the tricolor in kashmir in a highly volatile situation, did this make him and his cadre more Indian and others a lesser one?
A frenzied mob of ill motivated BJP and Kar Sewaks demolished Babri mosque, the wrath of which India is still suffering.
There was a thick chance of clash between JKLF and BJP at Lal Chowk, had the state govt not taken such pre-emptive steps. Why BJP workers attacked the state FM, although they were allowed to hoist flag in Kathua and CRPF did the flag hoisting at Lal Chowk.
Development, people to people contact, employment, public participation should be the agenda not the ultra nationalist and agressive approach.

The BJP have just proved themselves to be bad losers after the 1st UPA win at the centre. They just couldn't handle defeat after such a "shining" campaign. The party kept lurching from one low to another, with the 2009 defeat giving a finishing blow to Advani's dream of becoming the PM. Being in opposition is one thing and acting like a responsible opposition is another. They took the entire winter session hostage for a mere technicality like JPC/PAC, incurring a daily loss of 7.8 crores to the exchequer. But no, they're doing in the interests of the nation, so to hell with the 7.8 crores a day!
Regarding the Lal Chowk incident, it was a loosely planned event, with them behaving like small town thugs. Their own leader Atalji initiated the peace process in the valley and now they're pulling out all means to derail the process. Kashmir is a part of India is what we think, or rather would want ourselves to think. But is it really the same sentiment being shared there? The kashmiris living outside JnK have to show a lot more documents than the other citizens to obtain a visa for foreign visits, just to prove that they are indeed Indians. The govt.'s apathy during the entire summer last year was the worst example of inaction. The Politics of India including the govt.or opposition should rather invest time in making them realize that they are our people just like a Bihari or Kerelaite. It's imperative to generate this feeling instinctively instead of stamping our authority by raising the flag at the square.
The state government showed immense presence of mind and courage to stop this inflammatory act in time, and the citizens of India showed maturity in dismissing the event in no time. Hoping this whole episode brings some sense into the minds of the Opposition, that people's hearts aren't won by mere symbolism and talks. All they need is a normal daily life. Is it such a big task?
